A cardiac attack is different from a heart attack. A heart attack occurs when any artery gets blocked and prevents oxygen-rich blood from reaching a section of the heart. Symptoms of a heart attack may be immediate and intense. Whereas sudden cardiac arrest occurs suddenly and often without warning. It is triggered by an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat. With its pumping action disrupted, the heart cannot pump blood to the brain, lungs and other organs. Seconds later, a person loses consciousness and has no pulse. Death occurs within minutes if the victim does not receive treatment. Heart attacks increase the risk for sudden cardiac arrest. In this video renowned cardiologist, Dr. Purshotam Lal tells the reasons for sudden cardiac arrest.
Dr. Purshotam Lal is an internationally acclaimed Interventional cardiologist. Dr. Lal has been trained at world-renowned medical institutions in UK, Germany and USA. He is a Fellow of American College of Cardiology, American College of Medicine, Royal College of Physicians (Canada), Indian College of Cardiology & Society for Cardiac Angiography & Interventions (USA). Dr. Lal has the unique distinction of introducing the largest number of procedures in the field of Interventional Cardiology for the first time in the country.
