In season 2 of The Wire, one of the key goals of IBS union secretary treasurer Frank Sobotka is to ensure his port workers are not forced out of work due to the economy. The tragic failure of Frank to stop the waterfront jobs dying off is driven home by Nick Sobotka’s cameo in season 5 where he heckles property developer Andy Krawcyk and Mayor Carcetti.

There is also surprise cameo, however – in season 5 episode 4, McNulty is walking among the homeless and asks a man about whether his dog bites, and he replies, “He’s got teeth, don’t he?” - this now homeless man is Johnny 50, one of the stevedores of season 2.
