Battalion 1944 is the new multiplayer WWII shooter by Bulkead Interactive and published by Square Enix Collective. The game launched this week with a lot of problems as people overwhelmed the game’s limited server capacity. Battalion sets out to strip back what we know as the multiplayer shooter experience these days and takes it closer to what it used to be like in the early 2000s, when literally everything was better. The developers have some lofty ambitions, hoping to remind gamers and AAA gaming itself what an FPS used to be. But is it any good? And will the launch day problems hold it back? Let’s find out.
