Project SALVO began in 1951 as a way to increase hit probability in combat, based around flechettes as well as multiple projectiles in 1 round of ammunition.
In this video we test the nearly adopted M198 Duplex Ball, a 7.61x51 round that sends two projectiles downrange, with intentional dispersion, per round fired. This round was actually used in the field for a short duration of time before ultimately Project SALVO was ended with the adaptation of the M16 and 5.56.
InRange is an online video program dedicated to the study of guns, shooting, gun culture, and history. We dispel the myths, promote the good stuff that hasn't gotten the attention it deserves.
