Super Smash Bros. - The Ultimate Emissary - "Land of Departure"2
What if they actually made another Emissary? Well, they made an 'Adventure Mode', so to speak, but if it was worth my time, I wouldn't be making so many of these videos.
I decided, with Smash Ultimate's DLC characters done and released, they probably won't be doing anything with the game other than the amiibos and occassional balance adjustments.
Thus, I decided to make my own cutscenes. Been working on them since June last year. I was doing my usual complaining in a Smash Facebook group about the Emissary we never got when an Event Tourney was announced for "Heroes Vs. Villains". The artwork for the tourney was spectacular and epic, as every event tourney's art has been, despite me never taking part due to my chagrin for 4-player free-for-alls.
Anyway, it made me want CG cutscenes even more and to see my favorite characters interact, which we only got snippets of in the forms of the next DLC reveal. Finally, one commenter, a few years after, tells me off about how I do nothing but "be ungrateful and complain" after all Sakurai does. Another person was commenting about "Super Mario Bros. Z", the flash series in which Mario, Luigi, Sonic, and Shadow team up in DBZ style fights against the villains from both their universe, making a joke about the series' creator saying "Fine. I'll do it myself.", and that's what gave me the idea. To take CG footage from different sources we already have and try and put them together into one overarching storyline. A lot of these will be out of order in the form of MVs, but I'm definitely building a new lore.
It will be World of Light, but far richer in story, which had a story that already had potential if only it didn't kill 95% of the cast at the very beginning.
I made and released the first Ultimate Emissary trailer in June 2021, right before Nintendo's E3 Presentation and Kazuya's reveal. Regrettable in hindsight, as I could've waited for the new character and then included him in, striking while the iron was hot. Perhaps, this was to blame, for the video's lack of views. It was no longer relevant as neither Pyra/Mythra, nor Sephiroth were the hottest new fighters at that point. Thankfully, Sora happened to be in it. Even if Sora never ended up getting in, it was still always fun to imagine what it would be like. That imagination hasn't declined since he was confirmed since Ultimate still lacks a genuine story mode that ties this massive dream crossover together.
Then, while working on the sequel, I decided to try and update the stinger of the previous video, but then realized playing the new character's theme in the background for too long would give him away, so I had it omitted, and only left the sound effects that I added in, with Sephiroth and Kazuya facing off in all their CG glory. I posted it on Sakurai's Twitter and it's been one of my most successful posts on that site.
This latest one includes a prologue I threw in myself. In case you wonder where spirits come from, they come from two angry balls terrorizing people's worlds through different points in time and turning them into spirits to use against each other for their own personal war.
Yes, I'm still working on this project. It's been my passion, and what has kept me from going outdoors. I hope the Ultimate Emissary will be a satisfying experience, whatever it ends up being.
Maybe a video series?
