When people think of international alliances or groups they'll typically imagine NATO, the G7, and the European Union, but for several years a number of large developing countries have been exploring closer cooperation and collaboration to stand more independently of the Western dominated global world order. This group is known as BRICS, and it includes Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa, and India, all carrying relatively impressive reputations and economies behind them.
In the wake of recent dissatisfaction with the West, and a seeming decline of Western power on the world stage, many second and third world countries are turning to the BRICS countries as a potential alternative to the likes of the West, but is BRICS ready for such a responsibility? Can the BRICS countries even work out their own differences to actually make strides in a common direction? This is BRICS explained, why it is seen as so crucial to other emerging economies like Saudi Arabia and Iran, and whether or not it stands a chance of becoming a rival to NATO and the G7.
