This episode is a part of the series World History, Cultures, States and Societies to 1500 C.E. This episode in particular is the first episode of a multi episode series on Ancient and Medieval Africa. I believe this one is important because it touches on historiography and the struggle of Africans in reclaiming a history that is rightfully theirs and that in many cases has been stolen or fictionalized by European and American historians from the 18th and 19th centuries. We take a look at new approaches to African history revolving around oral sources and the African oral traditions and a few other things as well. I purposely divided up the next four episodes in a way that they will be brief and easy to listen to and watch. Enjoy!
