In this easy drawing tutorial, the third in my series on drawing for beginners, I explain how to use shading to create depth and distance in a drawing. I demonstrate how, by varying the pressure on the pencil, you can create different tones of shading. I then focus on two important techniques:
- Contrast - by creating contrast you can make objects appear to stand out, dark against light will often make the lighter object stand out.
- Shading objects lighter next to dark objects, the darker objects will often come forward, this is the basis of creating depth in a drawing.
