May needs to rotate the flask slightly to improve the accuracy of the powder charge.

You sad every thing was single shot other than that and Pepperboxes. How often where duble barrel pistols? And what about the much earlier inventions of that sliding block with chambers or barrels; was that not 200 years earlier? But that might have been forgotten for that location and time.
