The Many Saints of Newark is an upcoming crime film that is set to be released on September 24th of this year. The film is a prequel to HBO’s gangster drama The Sopranos, with Sopranos creator David Chase writing and producing the new movie. The film will feature many of the character from the show such as Tony Soprano, Silvio Dante and Paulie Walnuts, only of course, played by younger actors.
The movie has a very strong cast. Alessandro Nivola is the lead actor, playing the role of Dickie Moltisanti, the father of Christopher from the show. Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga play the father and mother of Tony Sopranos, and other notable members of the cast include Leslie Odom jr and Joey Diaz.
One of the biggest casting news concerning the movie was the addition of Ray Liotta added to the roaster, who will be forever remembered for playing the lead character Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s mob drama Goodfellas, the primary inspiration for The Sopranos. In fact, Liotta was even offered the role of Tony Soprano at one point, but he turned it down.
Liotta’s casting in the film has been known for a while now, but it’s quite enigmatic because, unlike most of the other big names, we’ve not known who he is actually playing. Until now.
