Canada should have taken the shot

Canadian CF18's should have taken the shot. The balloon was at 50,000 feet and the CF18 is capable of 45,000 feet. A balloon would make for a great way to deliver an EMP device. If this is beyond our National Defense capabilities why aren't we talking about this? This better not be allowed to happen again.
