The new yam festival is a medium through which Igbo people celebrate the yam harvest of the year. Traditionally, the Igbo man thanks his God\gods for a successful conclusion of a farming season by celebrating the New Yam Festival, he offers the yam to the spirits before eating the yam himself.
This is celebrating the yam for the Great goddess of the Nnewi Kingdom, Edo.
